Survival sewing

Tired of paying a tailor for simple alterations and repairs? In this workshop you’ll learn basic hand-sewing skills (such as sewing on replacement buttons and clasps properly) to tackle simple repairs and take up hems and cuffs. All materials provided. Please bring one garment to fix or adjust during the workshop. No previous sewing experience required.

Garden/cafe apron

Learn how to use a sewing machine and make a clever pocketed apron, perfect for gardening, cooking or washing up. You’ll learn how to wind a bobbin, thread a machine and sew straight seams, plus get tips on choosing fabric, pinning, cutting and ironing. Learn how to use a sewing machine (absolute beginners welcome!), get tips on choosing fabric, plus learn pinning, cutting and ironing methods. You’ll take home one organic lavender-filled eye bag with an outer slipcover for easy washing. Use it at home or tuck into your yoga bag for whenever you need to relax. Modern baby slippers and bib

Learn to sew curved seams and apply binding for neatly finished edges to take away a pair of contemporary baby slippers and matching bib. All materials included (a variety of fabrics will be available for you to choose from). Prerequisite: You should already know how to thread a machine, so try our Intro to Sewing Machine (try one of these classes: 1, 2, or 3) or have equivalent skills.

Zippered cosmetics bag

Learn to set a zipper, sew curved seams, line a bag and more to take home a stylish trimmed cosmetics pouch. All materials are included; a variety of printed and plain fabrics plus coordinating zippers will be available for you to choose from. (Plus you’ll leave with a pattern so you can make bags for gifts at home!) Prerequisite: You’ll need to know how to thread a machine, so sign up for our Intro to Sewing Machine (try one of these classes: 1, 2, or 3) or have the equivalent skills. Patchwork cushion

Create a generous 40 cm x 40 cm cushion using traditional quilting methods to join lengths of printed and plain cotton fabric. We’ll provide all materials, including a variety of fabrics, threads and ribbons plus a cushion pad. (Feel free to bring additional scraps to personalise your cushion.) Please bring a packed lunch.
