Knockout Knickers
Tired of boring high street knickers? Sew your own! You’ll choose from a wide selection of fabrics to make a pair of side-tie or regular seam briefs in class, then take away patterns and instructions to create more at home.

You’ll learn to:
- Take your measurements correctly
- Cut fabric to size on the bias
- Insert elastic at hips and legs
- Trim with ribbons, roses and more
- Take home a pattern to keep stitching at home.
PLEASE NOTE: This is NOT an absolute beginner’s sewing class. You should be confident sewing straight and curved seams as inserting elastic can be tricky! Essential Skills: Overlocking Made Easy
With their ability to simultaneously cut and stitch a hem, overlockers (aka sergers) are incredibly useful for decorating, reinforcing and constructing garments and other items. But they can be a bit intimidating!
In this 2-hour workshop, part of our new Essential Skills series, we’ll demystify the workings of the overlocker.

- Adjust tension and differential feed settings
- Sew around corners and curves
- Create gathers and rolled hems

Essential Skills: Basic Alterations
Tired of paying a tailor for simple alterations and repairs? In this Basic Alterations workshop (part of our new Essential Skills series), you’ll learn the skills that will last you a lifetime! No previous hand or sewing machine skills required.
In this 3-hour workshop, you’ll learn:
- Basic hand sewing stitches and when to use them
- Taking up hems by hand or machine
- Darning your knitwear
- Securely affixing buttons
- Mending a seam
- No previous sewing experience required
Please bring one or two articles of clothing to repair (please stick to the methods above). We may not get to finish both in class, but bring them along and we’ll talk you through them!

Restyle Your Clothing
Do you have a closet filled with clothes but nothing to wear? Has your shape changed and your clothes no longer fit? Or have you purchased vintage items and need to adjust them?
In this 3.5 hour workshop, you’ll learn a slew of advanced alteration techniques to revamp your clothing! Bring three garments to fix or adjust; we’ll work through the possibilities of each. You’ll leave with 1-2 completed garments, plus learn the skills to tackle many more at home (or in our sewing cafe).

Confused by buttonholes? Scared to insert zips? In this two-hour workshop, part of our new Essential Skills series, you’ll learn to create high-quality fastenings with confidence.
Taught by our expert instructor, you’ll:
- Learn which zip to use for which project
- Insert both regular and concealed zips
- Properly size and space buttonholes
- Create buttonholes using manual and automatic sewing machine functions

Freehand Machine Embroidery + Applique
If you’ve never used a sewing machine to draw, embellish and embroider, then you’re in for a treat! In this workshop, you’ll learn the ins and outs of freehand, or ‘free motion’ embroidery, by designing and stitching several textured, layered samples. You’ll then create your own embroidered and appliqued tea towel or piece of miniature wall art (hoop frame included).
