crochet flowers

Crochet is the new knitting! In this two-part beginner’s workshop, you’ll learn basic crochet stitches to create colorful flowers and necklaces. (Wear your flowers as corsages, pin them on handbags or even attach them to hair clips!)

In the first session, we’ll teach you to create a chain, a slipped stitch and double crochet to fashion basic flowers. In the second session, you’ll learn half and full treble stitches to make a more formal, stylised flower and get a start on a lovely crocheted sphere necklace.

All materials provided, including a wide selection of wool, a crochet hook and various embellishments, plus take-home patterns and instructions. No previous crochet experience needed.

NOTE: Want to learn more? This class serves as a prerequisite to our Super Cool Crochet Squares and Crochet Amigurumi Toys workshops.

Additional information

Sandra Dollin hasn’t put her needles down since learning to knit and crochet in her year three lunch room. In an attempt to ensure that yarn work was no longer considered something ‘only your grandmother does,’ she started Knot for Profit, an accessory business in her home town of Ottawa, Canada, specialising in one-of-a-kind hats and beanies. By day, Dollin works at a desk doing marketing and communications; by night she’s a free-spirited craftser with a passion to share her knowledge with others. ‘I carry a small project with me at all times as you never know when you will be stuck waiting in a queue for a bus, an airplane, or the dentist,’ she says. ‘It’s a great feeling to know that you can make something with your own two hands.’

Catherine Hirst learned to crochet as a little girl from her grandmother. She quickly added knitting and embroidery to her repertoire and has been creating handmade clothing and accessories ever since. ‘I always have half a dozen projects on the go, because I get so excited to try a new pattern or design idea,’ says Catherine. ‘I’m inspired by so many things in London: from the skirt of a woman who passes me on the street, to the architecture of the old buildings.’ Catherine has taught knitting, crochet, and embroidery for more than a decade to groups and individuals in Britain, the United States, and France.
