Patchwork Quilt

Design and create your own quilt over three sessions. You’ll take home a lovely 85cm by 65cm quilt (diagram here), suitable for use as a play mat, cot or lap quilt, or your own work of wall art!

*Learn to make and piece quilt blocks
*Use batting and backing
*Machine quilt
*Bind edges and mitre corners for a professional finish
*Batting and threads provided

Please bring your own fabrics (quantities below) or come a few minutes early to purchase from our shop. We have more than 120 varieties of printed and solid fabrics to choose from.

The class breaks down as follows, over either three weeknights or two Sunday sessions:

*Choose and combine fabrics, learn rotary cutting techniques, cut and stitch squares together to create the patchwork top.

*Baste quilting layers and machine quilt.

*Cut and make binding, bind quilt edges and mitre corners to finish.

PLEASE NOTE: This is not an absolute beginner’s workshop. You should be able to use a sewing machine unaided before coming to class. If you haven’t sewn recently, please sign up for one of our Learn to Sew! Workshops to get started: Cafe Apron, Cushion Cover or Tote Bags)

  • Level: Advanced beginner
  • Course length: Three 3-hour sessions

Alternately, you may purchase fabrics from our shop

Additional information

Polly Catchpole first learnt the basics of quilting while designing for the prison charity Fine Cell Work. She loves the nostalgia created by old fabrics and the tradition for reusing and recycling material to create beautiful one-off quilts. Passionate about conserving the environment, Polly has just launched her own eco-friendly interior textile company, Polly Hope. She hopes to add bespoke quilts to her collection of home furnishings next year.
