Zippers Clinic
Overcome your fear of zippers in this practical skills workshop! You’ll learn to insert a regular zip, an invisible zip, and sew a semiconcealed zip (look like a pro when you make skirts or cushion covers!). You’ll also get tips for managing broken zips and for altering garments with existing zippers. All materials provided.
At the end of the class you’ll leave with samples of each technique, printed instructions, plus a stylish little zippered oilcloth purse you made yourself.
Prerequisite: You should already know how to thread up a machine and sew a straight seam. (If you haven’t sewn recently, please sign up for one of our Intro to Sewing Machine workshops: Cafe Apron or Cushion Cover or Tote Bags).

Crochet amigurumi toys
You’ve probably seen amigurumi animals and monsters on craft blogs, now here’s your chance to learn the technique! Amigurumi is the Japanese art of crocheting or knitting small, stuffed creatures.
You’ll learn to crochet in the round to create a super-cute amigurumi creature. All tools and materials provided, including yarn, crochet hook, stuffing, specialist craft eyes (safe for young children) and embroidery thread.
PLEASE NOTE: This is not an absolute beginner’s workshop; you should be able to create a simple chain and double crochet before coming to class. We will not teach the basic stitches in this workshop. To learn them, try our Crocheted Fashion Accessories class.

Soap making
Handmade soap is long-lasting, moisturising, and creates heaps of creamy bubbles!
In this three-hour workshop, you’ll learn the chemical process used to create soap, find out how to safely use and store caustic soda (also known as lye), work with coconut, olive and other oils, choose essential oils, botanicals and other natural additives, plus learn to mould, cure and care for your soap.
We’ll split into three small groups then select recipes to make 5-6 bars of soap per person, plus take home our special planet-friendly ‘base’ recipe and supplier details so you can make more bars at home!
Please note that your soap will be ready to take home after class, but will need to cure for 3-4 weeks before using.

Crochet fashion accessories
Crochet is the new knitting! In this two-part beginner’s workshop, you’ll learn basic crochet stitches to create colorful flowers and necklaces. (Wear your flowers as corsages, pin them on handbags or even attach them to hair clips!)
In the first session, we’ll teach you to create a chain, a slipped stitch and double crochet to fashion basic flowers. In the second session, you’ll learn half and full treble stitches to make a more formal, stylised flower and get a start on a lovely crocheted sphere necklace.
NOTE: Be prepared do to a bit of homework between the two sessions to help the new techniques become second nature to you!
All materials provided, including a wide selection of wool, a crochet hook and various embellishments, plus take-home patterns and instructions. No previous crochet experience needed.
